Purpose: Create a refrigeration solution
The challenge our customer faced and how Delfield equipment helped create a solution.
The biggest challenge we faced in our operation was our space – what we put in that space had to work for us! We started with a 140 square foot commercial kitchen and knew that the equipment we placed in it had to be efficient and help us by offering features and benefits that would be useful. As our business grew, our need for cold storage more than quadrupled. Delfield helped us along every step of the way when we received a new Specification Line two door reach-in with an LED display, remote monitoring capability via an app that I didn’t know I needed until I received the unit. The control and app allow me to focus on other areas of my operation as I don’t have to worry as the app has me covered if there is an issue.

How did Delfield work with Crepes to implement the solution.
As our business grew, we had developed an obvious need for more cold storage. Running out of food was becoming a problem and we had less than three months to solve it as the summer was approaching. Delfield came in and helped me design a secondary prep kitchen in the basement of our cafe. This would provide us with added prep and cold storage as well as dry storage. Together we came up with an additional 200 square feet of kitchen space. It’s not a lot but substantially helped. While we were waiting for our new refrigerators to come in our two other "Craigslist" refrigerators had decided to retire. So, our new Spec Line refrigerator came as quite a delight and a relief. At the time, we weren’t aware of all the new unit had to offer – remote monitoring, alerts via an app, etc. Little did I know that those features would change how I look at refrigeration and what I want in my refrigeration going forward.

The remarkable results
The new refrigerators from Delfield use a R290 as a refrigerant. I don’t know what else was involved with the GreenGenius redesign, but I do know that we now have more refrigerators than we did previously, and our utility bill is almost $100 less than our average the first year. “That’s remarkable if you ask me!”
And the app – the app is a lifesaver! One night we had a storm and I got a notification from the app saying the refrigerator had gone offline. So, I went to the café to check and sure enough we had an outrage! It took some time to get the power back on, so in the meantime I was able to pack the coolers with ice to keep from having to throw stuff away. That app and notification, that was part of the new Delfield Spec Line unit, saved my operation $3,000 in revenue from just that one alert!
